Nigeria's UN Arts Ambassador visits the Rotary Youth Club
On Monday, February 8, 2010, the UN Arts Ambassador for Nigeria, Honorable
Ibiyinka Alao, came to the Fairhope-Point Clear Rotary Youth Club to do an art
presentation and workshop with the members of the club. The youth were fascinated with his presentation and really enjoyed trying to do
some artwork themselves. Nancy Raia, Community Arts Director at the Eastern Shore Art Center,
accompanied Ibiyinka and assisted him with the workshop. Before returning to Nigeria, Ibiyinka started a mural on the side of a Rotary
Youth Club and Nancy will complete the mural this spring.
Local Food Production Initiative work with youth to plant garden.
On Saturday, December 19, 2009, members from Fairhope's Local Food Production
Initiative came to the Rotary Youth Club to help build a youth garden. Debbie Calhoun of the Baldwin County Master Gardeners said she and others are
working to develop a curriculum through which children and teens can earn a
Junior Master Gardener certificate through Alabama 4-H and the Alabama
Cooperative Extension Service. The program should be available to some members of the club this summer.
